President Donald Trump has refused to release his tax returns since he was sworn in.
The latest twist comes as his lawyers and advisers are trying to force the president to release the tax returns.
Trump has a history of refusing to release tax documents, saying that he doesn’t want to violate the constitution and other laws.
But Trump has maintained that he has complied with all of the legal requirements.
Trump’s lawyers have asked the IRS to withhold tax refunds that could be used to pay for legal fees and legal expenses.
When asked Wednesday about the White House’s request, Trump’s spokesman Sean Spicer said in a statement that the president’s lawyers are asking the IRS not to release any tax information that is relevant to the ongoing tax audit.
Trump has also not responded to a request for comment.
